Dwarhatta

Dwarhatta is a village situated on the banks of the Damodar River in Hooghly district of West Bengal. Mind blowing Terracotta temples set in a calm ambiance with lush green surroundings make the place ideal for a day trip from Kolkata. The most prominent attraction of Dwarhatta is the Raj Rajeswari Temple which was constructed in the year 1677 by the Singha Rai family, the zamindars of this place. The exquisite carvings on the temple walls depict various mythological incidents as well as scenarios which were of significance at the time of its construction. Apart from this temple, there are two ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. You can also visit the Dwarika Chandi Temple located on the Northern boundaries of the village.

How to Reach

Local trains are running from Howrah to Haripal. Dwarhatta is 12 km from Haripal. Buses and trekkers are available from Haripal to reach Dwarhatta.

There is no need to stay overnight at Dwarhatta. One can visit Dwarhatta from Kolkata and return the same day.

Santiniketan

Santiniketan is known worldwide as a significant centre for pursuing higher studies and being the home to the famous Bengali poet and writer Rabindranath Tagore. Gangani

Gangani (also spelled as Gongoni) is located near the small town of Garhbeta in Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal. It is called the Grand Canyon of Bengal. The place is located on the bank of Shilabati river. The 70 ft deep gorge through which the Shilabati river flows during the monsoon is a beautiful creation of mother nature formed by soil erosion with the aid of the River Shilabati. Deul

Deul is a picturesque weekend destination in Bardhaman district of West Bengal. Nestled on the banks of Ajoy River, the place is surrounded by the dense Garh forest of Durgapur. The name of the place has been derived from the historic Ichhai Ghosh-er Deul. The word 'Deul' means temple. This age-old temple is worth seeing. A large garden named Deul Park has come up behind the temple. The park houses various kinds of seasonal flowers and is well decorated. There is a lake at one end of the park. You can go for boating in the lake. The peace and calm environment of Deul makes it perfect for picnic during the winter season. The historic site where Icchai Ghosh was defeated in a war with Lausen is also located nearby.

Trains are running from Sealdah to reach Bolpur Santiniketan. You can also reach Durgapur from Howrah by train. Hired cars are available from both Durgapur and Bolpur to reach Deul Park. To reach Deul from Kolkata by car, first drive to Panagarh via Bardhaman. Then take right from Darjeeling More and reach Egaro Mile Bus Stop. Deul Park is about 3 km from Egaro Mile Bus Stop.

Antpur

Antpur is a village in Hooghly district of West Bengal. It consists of eight smaller villages namely Tara, Bamnagar, Kumarbazar, Dharampur, Ranibazar, Anarbati, Bilara and Lohagachhi. The place hosts an array of temples. The most famous temple of Antpur is the Radhagobinda Temple with exquisite terracotta carvings on its walls. The temple is 100 ft tall with various scenes from mythology as well as everyday life depicted on small terracotta panels on the walls of the temple. The Chandi Mandap and Dol Mancha have beautifully crafted wood carvings. Beside the main temple, there are five Shiva temples which also exhibit terracotta work. Sarada Bhawan is located opposite to Radhagovindjiu Temple. The temple remains closed from 12 pm to 3 pm.

How to Reach

Antpur is 48 km from Kolkata. Direct buses are available from Kolkata to reach Antpur. You can also reach Haripal from Howrah by local train. Haripal lies on the Howrah-Tarakeshwar line. Buses are plying from Haripal to Antpur.

Deulghata

Pathra

Pathra is an unexplored weekend destination situated in Paschim Midnapore district of West Bengal. The place hosts an attractive number of Terracotta temples. Located on the bank of River Kangsabati, Pathra is ideal for a one day tour or a bike outing. The exquisite Terracotta work on the walls of the temples is worth seeing. These temples were established by Baidyanath Ghoshal who was given the responsibility of collecting revenue in the Ratanchawk pargana by Nawab Alivardi Khan. How to Reach

You can easily reach Midnapore from Howrah by Midnapore Local. Distance from Midnapore to Pathra is 10 km. Pathra is easily accessible by car or trekker from Midnapore via Hatikhola.

Murshidabad

Garpanchkot

Garpanchkot is nestled in the Panchet hill of West Bengal. The place is calm, serene and surrounded by nature. The height of Garpanchkot hill is 646 meter. A Terracota temple is located on the hill. The ruins of Kashipur Rajprasad can be seen here. You can also see the Pancharatna Temple which was constructed by the King of Kashipur. Panchet Dam is located about 5 km from Garpanchkot. Chandragiri

Chandragiri is a small town situated in Odisha. The town of Chandragiri is inhabited by Tibetan people. These people had arrived from Tibet in the year 1959 following China Aggression in Tibet. If you come to Chandragiri, you will feel as if you have landed at mini Tibet. There is Buddhist Monastery with colourful flags. The main attraction for tourists is the lifestyle of the people in this hilly village. Apart from traditional foods like momo and thuppa, Tibetan handicrafts are also available here. You can visit Chandragiri from Taptapani by hired car and come back before night. Chandragiri is 35 km from Taptapani. Taptapani is primarily known for its hotspring which is said to have healing abilities.

Jairambati

Jairambati is situated about 6 km from Kamarpukur. Sri Sri Sarada Devi, the wife of Sri Ramkrishna was born in this village. A temple of Sarada Maa has been established here. When entering through the main gate, on the right side of the temple you can see the mother's ancestral house. An idol of Sarada Devi is there inside the temple. On the opposite side of temple you can see Punnipukur and the temple of Sundarnarayan and Shitalamata.

Nabadwip

It is said that nine small islands together have constituted Nabadwip and hence it's name. Shree Chaitanyadev was born in this holy land. But there is still debate on the question that whether Chaitanyadev was born in Mayapur or Nabadwip. Nabadwip is an old and historical city. The whole city has come up in an unplanned way. You can hire a cycle rickshaw to see all the places of interest. Sonar Gouranga, Buro Shib, Jagai Madhai Mandir, Gadadhar House, Puri Mandir, Sachimata's Mandir, Rani's House, Sri Guru Ashram are some of the attractions of Nabadwip. Other than these, there are innumerable temples in Nabadwip. It is important to note that all temples of Nabadwip remain closed from 1 pm to 3 pm.
