Gangani (also spelled as Gongoni) is located near the small town of Garhbeta in Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal. It is called the mini Grand Canyon of Bengal. The place lies on the bank of the Shilabati river at the point where the river makes a crescent bend from South towards the North-East direction. The 70 ft deep gorge through which the Shilabati river flows during the monsoon is a beautiful creation of mother nature formed by years of soil erosion with the help of the river. The fields of Gangani are full of tree fossils scattered around the region. You can also visit the Sarbamangala Temple situated in Garhbeta.
