Chumbung

Trains are running from Sealdah, Howrah and Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri. The journey from Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri takes around 10 hours. Auto rickshaws are plying from New Jalpaiguri to Siliguri. Sutan

Sutan is a tribal village inhabited by the Santhals, Munda and Bhumijra tribes. It is located at a distance of 60 km from Bankura. Forests of Sal, Palash, Mahua and Piyal surround the area. The main attraction for the tourists is the beautiful Sutan Lake. There is facility for boating in this lake. A watch tower has been constructed here to get a unmatched view of the surrounding forests. Sometimes wild elephants are also seen here which come here from Dalma Pahar.

Jhilimili

Jhilimili is a beautiful tourist place, 15 km from Mukutmanipur, in Bankura district of West Bengal. Jhilimili is also known as the Darjeeling of South Bengal. The way from Ranibandh to Jhilimili is spectacular with dense natural forest on both sides of the road. Literally translating to sparkle in the Bengali language, Jhilimili gets its name from the sparkle of micaceous soil that covers the area. Mounted on top of a hillock, the place is surrounded by thick forests of varying heights. Flickering beams of sunlight somehow make their way through the dense foliage adding to its charm and thrill.

Sightseeing and Activities

Kangsabati river is flowing by the side of this hill which adds to the beauty of this tourist spot. A watch tower is located on the bank of the river. It offers a mind-blowing, panoramic view of the surroundings. You can take a idyllic stroll along the edge of the river or simply sit back and listen to the melodious singing of birds.

Small tribal villages are scattered in and around the forest. Those who wish to get a taste of tribal life can hike to one of the villages and spend some time with the inhabitants. The annual Tusu Parab, a tribal festival worshiping Goddess Tusu is a major attraction in the region. The festival is celebrated every year on the bank of River Kangsabati during mid-January.

Best Time to Visit

Jhilimili is best enjoyed during the winter months of November to February. Mid-January is, however, the best time to visit as it is the time when tribes in Jhilimili celebrate Tusu Parab, a tribal festival in which they worship Goddess Tusu. Tourists can get to experience tribal culture, folk songs and dance during this time.

Trains are running from Howrah, Santragachi and Shalimar to Bankura. It takes around three and a half hours to reach Bankura by train. Buses are running from Bankura and Mukutmanipur to Jhilimili via Khatra.

Barodabri is situated at a distance of 3 km from Hasimara Air Force Base. Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary is 15 km from here. Barodabri is a peaceful and serene forest. Badrama Wildlife Sanctuary

Badrama Wildlife Sanctuary also known as Ushakothi Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Sambalpur district of Odisha. Spanning over an area of 304 sq. km, this sanctuary is home to a large population of tigers, leopards, panthers, elephants, sloth bears, sambhar, chital and other species of deers. Asanboni

Asanboni is a wonderful weekend destination in the state of Jharkhand. The place is calm and serene, situated at the foothills of Dalma hill. One can reach the top of the hill by car. From the hill top, the scenery of the surrounding places looks amazing. Asanbani is a perfect place to spend 2-3 days away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary

The prime attraction of Asanbani is the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary. Established in 1975 and inaugurated by Sanjay Gandhi, the Dalma forest is a paradise for the native Indian flora and fauna. Especially known for its large population of elephants and deer, the sanctuary is quite an attraction for tourists visiting Asanboni. Lying in the catchment area of Subarnarekha river, the forest is also home to leopards, sloth bears and porcupines. Throughout the jungle, small hideouts have been built close to the ponds, which enables tourists to get a close glimpse of the wild animals as they arrive at the water bodies for drinking water. The Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary remains open from 7 am to 5 pm. You need to secure an entry permit from the sanctuary entrance at Makulakocha Check Post by paying the requisite entry fee. The entrance to Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary is around 15 km from Asanboni. Tourists visiting the sanctuary can also visit the much revered Shiva Temple, perched atop a mountain. The temple invites plenty of devotees during the Shivratri festival.

Dimna Lake

Dimna Lake is an ideal place to spend some time away from the humdrums of busy life. Situated 8 km from Asanboni, this picturesque lake with its crystal clear water against a backdrop of Dalma Hills looks absolutely stunning. Constructed by Tata Steel, the dam is built on River Kharkai and primarily serves as a reservoir of water for the nearby steel plant as well as the residents of Jamshedpur city. Located at the foothills of Dalma mountain range, the lake is pretty well-known as a picnic spot with its clear water and scenic surroundings, creating scope for mini treks into the hills, and water activities such as boating, rowing, and jet skiing among many others A fabulous view of the sun rising from behind the hills, with luxuriant greenery and the cheerful chirping of birds is what sets this lake apart.

At a distance of 26 km from Asanbani lies the Chandil Dam, standing on the Subarnarekha River. The dam features a huge water reservoir punctuated with green hills and colourful boats. You can spend a nice time enjoying boating in the azure waters of the reservoir. The museum located near Chandil Dam is also worth a visit. It showcases some rich collections of 200 years old scripts inscribed on rocks. The Subarnarekha flows through this region.

Jayda Temple

Located on the serene banks of the Subarnarekha Temple near Chandil Dam, Jayda Temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Shiva. Built in the shikhara (spire) style of architecture, this colourful temple is adorned with two shikharas decorated with imposing shivlings and sculptures of Hindu deities. The best time to visit the temple is during Tusu Festival, when a grand fair is held. The jungles and the river banks lying in close proximity make for a great picnic spot, where one can relax and spend quality leisure time in the lap of nature. The temple is believed to be more than 50 years old.

Asanboni can be visited throughout the year. During the monsoon season, the adjacent Dalma hills get enveloped by lush greenery and rolling clouds. Winters are, however, much clearer, brighter and even more blissful.

Trains are running from Howrah to Tatanagar. Tatanagar lies on the Howrah-Mumbai Main Line and plenty of trains are available from Howrah to reach Tatanagar. It takes less than 4 hours to get to Tatanagar from Howrah. Asanboni is 17 km from Tatanagar. You can reach there by hired car.

Swastikanan

Shibpur Botanical Garden

Shibpur Botanical Garden situated in Howrah is one of Asia's largest botanical garden. During winter hundreds of people come here to see the various species of trees and plants. Gopalpur on Sea is a beach resort situated in the Ganjam district of Odisha. The beach is clean and beautiful. The place is quite. One can enjoy the roaring of the waves and feel the cool breeze. Wonder Land Park

Wonderland Park is situated in the city of Chandannagar. The park covers an area of 135 bighas. There are more than 200 picnic spots here. Rinchenpong

Rinchenpong is a beautiful village located in West Sikkim at a height of 5550 ft. It is one of the latest additions to the tourist map of Sikkim. One can enjoy the magnificent view of the snow clad peaks of Kanchenjunga, Rothang, Koktang, Kabru etc. Hilley Barshey Rhododendron Sanctuary is a 20 km trek from here. A recreational water park named Rangit Water World has come up here which offers a number of activities like boating, rafting and fishing to the tourists.

Mirik is a picturesque hill resort located in the district of Darjeeling in the state of West Bengal. It is situated at an altitude of 1767 m above sea level. The prime attraction of Mirik is the Sumendu Lake, surrounded by a garden on one side and pine trees on the other and linked to one another by an arched footbridge. This lake situated in the Singhlila hill covers an area of 1.25 sq. km. It offers breathtaking views of Mt. Kanchenjunga near the horizon. One can boat in the lake or take a pony ride around the lake. Other attractions in Mirik include lush green tea gardens and orange orchards. You may also visit Pashupati Market which is 11 km from here. You can buy foreign goods from this commercial trade centre located in Nepal.

How to Reach

Trains are running from Sealdah, Howrah and Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri. The journey from Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri takes around 10 hours. Auto rickshaws are plying from New Jalpaiguri to Siliguri. From Siliguri you can get bus, shared cars and jeeps to reach Mirik. You can also go to Mirik from Darjeeling.

Bandel Church

Rasikbil

Rasikbil is located in the district of Coochbehar in the state of West Bengal. It consists of a small lake. The bird sanctuary spans over an area of 175 hectares. The unending blue sky and the vast expanse of the lake and the forest merge together and create a wonderful scene that will remain in your minds for years. The main attractions of Rasikbil are the various species of migratory birds which come here during every winter season and go back to their country when spring arrives. A watch tower is there in Rasikbil for watching birds. You can also see the aquarium, deer park and childrens park. There is boating facility in Rasikbil for tourists. How to Reach

Trains are running from Sealdah and Howrah to Alipurduar Junction. It takes around 15 hours to reach Alipurduar. You can reach Rasikbil by bus from Alipurduar. Apart from this you can come to Kamakhyaguri from Coochbehar or Alipurduar and from there you can reach Rasikbil by rickshaw. Distance is 4 km.

Sundarban

Sundarbans, the home of the Royal Bengal Tigers, is situated in the South East portion of the South 24 Parganas district of the state of West Bengal. The Sundarbans was declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 1984. Sundarbans is on the one hand a National Park, a Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve. It is also a biosphere reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sunderbans is a place of awe and wonder which will leave every visitor spellbound. The best season to visit Sundarbans is December to January.

By local train you can reach Canning from Sealdah. From Canning you can get Launch to go to Dockghat. From there you can get bus, auto or rickshaw to reach Sonakhali. From Sonakhali you can get trekker to reach Gosaba Dwip. From there you can get another trekker to reach Sajnekhali. Or you can board Sonakhali bound bus from Babughat. From there you can get trekker to reach Gosaba Dwip and again another trekker to reach Sajnekhali.
