Tarapith

Tarapith is a famous temple town situated in Birbhum district of West Bengal. It is believed that the eye ball of Sati, the wife of Lord Shiva fell at this very place during the Daksha Yagna incident. The walls of the temple of Tara Maa is built with red bricks. On the temple walls, one can witness superior carvings and intricate designs. The actual stone image of the deity is camouflaged by a 3-ft metal image, that the devotee usually see. Tarapith is also known for saint Bamakhepa also called the 'mad saint', who is held in great reverence in Tarapith and whose shrine is located in the vicinity of the temple. You can also visit the Nalhateswari Temple, Bakreswar and Massanjore from Tarapith.

How to Reach

You can reach Tarapith either by train or bus. Trains are running from Howrah, Sealdah and Kolkata station to Rampurhat. From Rampurhat, you can get trekkers and autos which will take you to Tarapith. Tarapith bound buses are also available from Esplanade bus terminus.
