Deul

Deul is a picturesque weekend destination in Bardhaman district of West Bengal. Nestled on the banks of Ajoy River, the place is surrounded by the dense Garh forest of Durgapur. The name of the place has been derived from the historic Ichhai Ghosh-er Deul. The word 'Deul' means temple. This age-old temple is worth seeing. A large garden named Deul Park has come up behind the temple. The park houses various kinds of seasonal flowers and is well decorated. There is a lake at one end of the park. You can go for boating in the lake. The peace and calm environment of Deul makes it perfect for picnic during the winter season. The historic site where Icchai Ghosh was defeated in a war with Lausen is also located nearby.

How to Reach

Trains are running from Sealdah to reach Bolpur Santiniketan. You can also reach Durgapur from Howrah by train. Hired cars are available from both Durgapur and Bolpur to reach Deul Park. To reach Deul from Kolkata by car, first drive to Panagarh via Bardhaman. Then take right from Darjeeling More and reach Egaro Mile Bus Stop. Deul Park is about 3 km from Egaro Mile Bus Stop.

Radhanagar

Radhanagar is a village in Arambagh subdivision of Hooghly district of West Bengal. It is the birthplace of the renowned social reformist Raja Rammohun Roy. The ancestral home of Raja Ram Mohan Roy is one of the main attractions of the place. In front of the house there is a memorial hall, the architecture of which was planned by the famous Bengali poet and writer Rabindranath Tagore. A Dolmanch is situated near the hall. You can take a stroll to Raghunathpur where you will find mango orchards with lots of mango trees that were planted by Raja Ram Mohan Roy. In winter, one can get permit for picnic inside the mango orchards of Raghunathpur.

How to Reach

Local trains are running from Howrah to Tarakeshwar. Frequent bus service is available from Tarakeshwar to Basudevpur in Arambagh. You can also reach Basudevpur directly by bus from Esplanade Bus Terminus in Kolkata. Buses are plying from Basudevpur to Khanakul. Trekkers are available from Khanakul to reach Radhanagar. However it is better to book a car and visit Radhanagar along with Garmandaran, Kamarpukur and Jairambati.

How to Reach

Trains are running from Sealdah, Howrah and Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri. The journey from Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri takes around 10 hours. Auto rickshaws are plying from New Jalpaiguri to Siliguri. You can reach Reshikhola from Siliguri directly by car via Rhenock. Rishikhola is easily accessible from Kalimpong and Pedong too.

Totopara Lankapara

Totopara is a tribal village situated near Indo-Bhutan border at a distance of 22 km from Madarihat in West Bengal. The village is mainly inhabited by the Toto tribes. Lankapara is located 7 km ahead of Totopara on the way from Madarihat to Totopara. There are two forest bungalows on the top of the hill at Lankapara. A watchtower near Lankapara facilitates viewing of wild animals, birds and the natural beauty of the place. Titi river flows by the side of Lankapara. You can enjoy the view of a memorable sunset in the backdrop of tea gardens from the bank of the river. Deer and bison are often spotted at Lankapara.

Antpur

Antpur is a village in Hooghly district of West Bengal. It consists of eight smaller villages namely Tara, Bamnagar, Kumarbazar, Dharampur, Ranibazar, Anarbati, Bilara and Lohagachhi. The place hosts an array of temples. The most famous temple of Antpur is the Radhagobinda Temple with exquisite terracotta carvings on its walls. The temple is 100 ft tall with various scenes from mythology as well as everyday life depicted on small terracotta panels on the walls of the temple. The Chandi Mandap and Dol Mancha have beautifully crafted wood carvings. Beside the main temple, there are five Shiva temples which also exhibit terracotta work. Sarada Bhawan is located opposite to Radhagovindjiu Temple. The temple remains closed from 12 pm to 3 pm.
