Sillery Gaon

Sillery Gaon is a small hamlet located 8 km from Pedong. Nestled at a height of 6000 ft, this village is lovingly called the New Darjeeling. The place offers magnificent views of Mt. Kanchenjunga along with other peaks like Jumulhari and Fish Tail. Every house in this village has a flower garden in its front. In the distance one can see the Sikkimese town of Namchi and the River Teesta flowing through the curves of the hills. To get spectacular view of the snow capped peaks of the Himalayas and the river below you can visit Ramiteydara Viewpoint. It takes about half an hour by car to reach Ramitey from Sillery. There is neither electricity nor market in Sillery Gaon. One can visit Pedong and its attractions from here by car. Those who are interested in trekking can visit Damsang Fort ruins 4 km from the village.

How to Reach

Trains are running from Sealdah, Howrah and Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri. The journey from Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri takes around 10 hours. Auto rickshaws are plying from New Jalpaiguri to Siliguri. Pedong can be reached from Siliguri or Kalimpong by bus. From Pedong one can reach Sillery Gaon by car. Distance between Sillery and Pedong is 8 km. You can also get hired cars from New Jalpaiguri to get to Sillery directly.

Garpanchkot

Garpanchkot is nestled in the Panchet hill of West Bengal. The place is calm, serene and surrounded by nature. The height of Garpanchkot hill is 646 meter. A Terracota temple is located on the hill. The ruins of Kashipur Rajprasad can be seen here. You can also see the Pancharatna Temple which was constructed by the King of Kashipur. Panchet Dam is located about 5 km from Garpanchkot. There is a road on the dam which connects West Bengal and Jharkhand. You will be able to see a number of boats crossing the Damodar river from here.

How to Reach

Trains are running from Howrah to Kumardubi. It takes about 4 hours to reach Kumardubi from Howrah. Hired cars and auto rickshaws are available from Kumardubi to Garpanchkot which is 20 km away.

Henry Island

Henry Island is a small island situated close to Bakkhali Sea Beach. The view of the sunrise and sunset from the watch towers of Henry Island is an unforgettable experience. One can go for a walk to the beach through a stretch of mangrove forest. You will have to cross a small bamboo bridge in order to get to the beach. Henry's Island was actually an extension of the Sundarbans but now it has become one of the most popular holiday destinations of West Bengal.

How to Reach

You can board Namkhana local from Sealdah and reach Namkhana. It takes about 3 hours to reach Namkhana from Sealdah. From there you can take a van rickshaw to get to the Hatania-Doania river jetty. After crossing the river, you can get trekker to reach Henry Island. Otherwise you can reach Bakkhali directly from Esplanade Bus Terminus by bus. Henry Island is easily accessible from Bakkhali by car or van rickshaw.

Topchanchi

Topchanchi is a small town located in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand. The place hosts one of the largest artificial lakes of India. The lake is nestled in the green hills and forests of the surrounding area. A number of species of fishes are seen in the waters of this lake. In the winter, hundreds of migratory birds from different countries come here which increase the beauty of the lake. Topchanchi has yet not made its place in the tourist map due to lack of publicity.

How to Reach

Many trains are running from Howrah to Dhanbad. Buses, minibuses, jeeps and trekkers are plying from there to Topchanchi. Direct buses are also available from Kolkata to reach Dhanbad.

Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary

Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Munger district of Bihar. Situated at the foothills of Mahadev hill, this wildlife sanctuary covers an area of 681 sq. km. The forest of Bhimbandh hosts abundant Sal, Mahua, Shimul, Haritaki, Amlaki, Arjuna and other trees. The Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary is home to animals like leopard, tiger, sambhar, bear, bison, chital, wolf etc. Apart from these there are numerous birds in the forest. There are hotsprings adjacent to the wildlife Sanctuary. The waters of the hotsprings have a temperature of around 52°-62°C. The place is ideal as a weekend destination but still it is not much popular among tourists. There are several attractions near Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary including the Kumari Falls, Rameshwar Kund and Kharagpur Lake.

How to Reach

You can reach Bariarpur station from Howrah by train. BSRTC buses are plying from the local bus stand to Kharagpur. Jeeps are available from Kharagpur to reach Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary, 30 km from there.

Tajpur

Tajpur is one of the newest beach resorts of West Bengal. The virgin sea beach of Tajpur is dotted with palm trees. One can see numerous red crabs in the beach which makes it look red in colour. The place is calm and serene and is still not much popular among tourists. Several fishing villages are located near Tajpur. Another attraction of Tajpur is the lagoon. The lagoon is quite deep and the view of it is wonderful especially during low tides. But it is not at all safe to bath in the beach adjacent to the lagoon. Mandarmani, another new beach is situated on the other side of the lagoon. There is no electricity in Tajpur and current in the resorts and hotels is generated by generators. View of sunrise and sunset in the sea waters is an extraordinary experience. Adventure lovers can go for parasailing and other water sports which are organized here.

How to Reach

Tajpur is located 170 km from Kolkata. Trains are running from Howrah to Ramnagar Bengal. It takes less than 3 hours to reach Ramnagar from Howrah. From there hired cars are available to get to Tajpur. You can also disembark at Kanthi or Digha Flag Station and reach Balusai More from there by bus or car. Balusai More can also be reached directly from Kolkata by Digha bound buses. Motor Van and rickshaws ply from Balusai More to Tajpur.

Panchalingeswar

Panchalingeswar is a quaint village located in the hilly areas of Balasore district in Odisha. The tranquility and scenic beauty of nature makes Panchalingeswar an ideal weekend getaway. The prime attraction of this place is the Panchalingeswar Temple which is situated on top of a hill close to the Nilagiri hills.
