Rongo

Rongo is a tiny hill hamlet situated in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. The village lies near the Indo-Bhutan border at an altitude of 4500 ft above sea level. Rongo is famous for Cinchona plantations and growing of medicinal plants. The bird's eye view of the surrounding hills, dense forests and river valley of Jaldhaka from Rongo is mesmerizing. Rongo is also the gateway to the Neora Valley National Park.

How to Reach

Trains are running from Sealdah to New Jalpaiguri. Siliguri is located very close to New Jalpaiguri. You can hire a car from Siliguri and reach Rongo via Chalsa, Khunia More and Gairibas.

Takdah

Takdah is a British Cantonment located 27 km from Darjeeling in West Bengal. It lies at an altitude of 4000 ft above sea level. Takdah is famous for its lush green tea gardens. The surrounding forests of pine and cedar along with the orchid gardens add to the beauty of the place. The main attraction of Takdah is the Pema Tshoiling Monastery. How to Reach

Trains are running from Sealdah, Howrah and Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri. The journey from Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri takes around 10 hours. Auto rickshaws are plying from New Jalpaiguri to Siliguri. Takdah is 70 km from Siliguri. Hired cars are available from New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri to reach Takdah. Shared jeeps are also plying from Darjeeling and Ghum to Takdah.

Tandrabung

Tandrabung is a small village situated at a distance of 22 km from Lava in West Bengal. The village is mostly inhabited by the Lepchas. The lush greenery, blue sky and colourful flowers make Tandrabung an ideal weekend destination. Around 15 types of orchids are seen at Tandrabung. The best time for seeing orchids is from February to May. The main attraction of Tandrabung is the Lepchahut. Lepcha Museum is also worth a visit. Khutimari

Garuchira

Garuchira is a picturesque village situated in the Terai region of West Bengal. The Indo-Bhutan Border is located very close to Garuchira. The main attraction of this place is its lovely natural beauty. The dense forests, rocky hills of Bhutan, orchid flowers and lush green tea gardens make Garuchira the ideal place for spending time amidst nature. Rivers Sukti and Khagra flow by Garuchira. Wild elephants are often seen in the forests of Garuchira. The place is also a paradise for bird watchers with birds like Little Forktail, Hill Myna, Peacock, Oriole and River Lapwing nesting in the trees of this forest. Garuchira can be visited round the year except during the rainy season.

You can reach Dalgaon from Sealdah station by train. Garuchira is 16 km from Dalgaon. Cars are available from Dalgaon to reach Garuchira via Birpara and Bandapani. You may also reach Garuchira from Siliguri by hired car. Garuchira is 120 km from Siliguri.

Bodaganj

Bodaganj is a virgin and unexplored weekend destination situated near Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. The place is surrounded by forests and tea gardens with a beautiful backdrop of the mighty Himalayas. The Teesta Barrage is located very close to Bodaganj. Various wild animals including the one-horned rhinoceros, elephants, barking deer, hog deer, spotted deer, sambhar, wild boars and Gour are sighted in the jungle around Bodaganj. Todey Tangta

Todey and Tangta are two small hill hamlets situated in North of West Bengal. The two villages are located close to the India-Bhutan Border. Both Todey and Tangta were famous for cardamom production. But recently, the yield has declined heavily due to a widespread fungal disease of the plants. There is a monastery at Todey. The beautiful Rachella Peak is situated close to Tangta and is worth a visit. One can reach Rachella after six to eight hours of climbing from Tangta.

How to Reach

Trains are running from Sealdah and Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri. You can reach Bindu by hired car from Siliguri. Todey is easily accessible from Bindu. Tangta is a 3 hours trek from Todey village.
