Rajabhatkhawa

Rajabhatkhawa is a small town located on the outskirts of Buxa Tiger Reserve. It is the main gateway to the tiger reserve. A Vulture Breeding Centre has been developed at Rajabhatkhawa by the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation (WBFDC). The place is surrounded by dense forest which gives an unmatched beauty to it. The green forests, grey hills, cascading river, roar of the tigers make Rajabhatkhawa an ideal spot for experiencing jungle tourism at its best. You can visit the nearby Buxa Tiger Reserve. Entry permits for the Tiger Reserve are issued from Nature Interpretation Centre at Rajabhatkhawa. One can go for a 5 km trek to Buxa Fort. You can visit Sikiajhora from Rajabhatkhawa via Damanpur where you can experience a boat ride through the Buxa Tiger Reserve. The forest of Chilapata and Jayanti is also worth a visit.

How to Reach

Trains are running from Sealdah and Kolkata station to New Jalpaiguri. You can reach Rajabhatkhawa from Siliguri by train. Otherwise you can reach New Alipurduar from Sealdah by train and then get to Rajabhatkhawa by car or auto. Rajabhatkhawa is 17 km from Alipurduar..

Chilapata

Chilapata is a dense forest situated near Jaldapara National Park. The place hosts a variety of wild animals including rhinoceros, tigers, leopards, elephants, bison and various species of deers. Chilapata is of historical importance too. The ruins of the 'Nalraja Garh' constructed during the Gupta Period can be seen here.

Chilapata is 35 km from Alipurduar. You can reach New Alipurduar from Howrah by train. Buses are running from Alipurduar to Chilapata.

Mahishrekha

Mahishrekha Picnic Spot is located 4 km from Kulgachia station on the Howrah-Kharagpur Main Line. The place is situated on the banks of river Damodar. It is an ideal spot for picnic in Winter.

You can reach Kulgachia station from Howrah by train. Auto rickshaws and buses are available from Kulgachia to reach Mahishrekha Picnic Spot.

Raidak

Raidak Forest is situated near Alipurduar. On the way to Raidak one will see lush green tea gardens on the sides of the road. A number of species of birds such as parrots, koel, bulbuli, lalmunia are seen here. This forest is also inhabited by wild pigs, Gaur, elephants and several other animals. The calm forest, cascading rivers and majestic hills will make you mesmerized. You can also visit Raimatang and Bhutanghat (Indo-Bhutan Border) from here. Best time to visit Raidak is October to January. Raidak Forest remains closed from June to September.

You can reach New Alipurduar from Sealdah or Kolkata by train. From Alipurduar one can get bus or jeep to reach Shamukkhola. Raidak Forest is just 3 km from Shamukkhola.

Sabuj Deep

Sabuj Deep is a magnificent picnic spot run by Hooghly Zilla Parishad and WBSFDC. The place is situated at a distance of 75 km from Kolkata. It is an islet located near Balagarh at the confluence of Behula and Hooghly rivers. Spanning over an area of 180 bigha, Sabuj Deep Picnic Spot is dotted with pine, palm, eucalyptus, teak, Mahogony and other trees. The picnic spot hosts a children's park, flower garden, restaurant and a view tower. You can also go for a boat ride in the river.

Sabuj Dwip remains open from 8 am to 6 pm.
Boat fare - Rs. 50/- per head.
Toilet and drinking water facilities is available here. There is a park too.
A few restaurants, tea and soft drinks stalls are set up during the peak season.
All arrangements for picnic has to be brought from Balagarh market.
There is no need to book the picnic spot in advance.

How to Reach

You can get trains from Howrah and Sealdah to reach Somra Bazar. From there you can take a van rickshaw ride to Sukhadia village. Sabuj Deep Ghat is located in Sukhadia village from where motor boats are plying to Sabuj Deep.

Chilkigarh

Chilkigarh is the newest addition to the tourist map of Midnapore district. Chilkigarh is located at a distance of 20 km from Jhargram. A new tourist centre beside the Dulung river has come up here which spans over an area of 100 acres. There is an artificial lake having boating facilities. This tourist centre is still not popular among tourists. So if you want to spend a weekend in solitude then Chilkigarh is the right place.

How to Reach

You can avail local trains running from Howrah to reach Kharagpur. From there you can get trains to reach Gidhni. Chilkigarh is 5 km from Gidhni station. You can travel this distance by auto rickshaw or trekker.

Accommodation

You cannot stay at Chilkigarh. For accommodation you have to come back to Gidhni. There are several hotels, lodges and guest houses at Gidhni to cater to your requirements.

Bethuadahari

Bethuadahari is a calm, serene and peaceful forest situated in Nadia district in the state of West Bengal. A wildlife sanctuary has come up at Bethuadahari which spans over an area of 165 acres. Bethuadahari Wildlife Sanctuary is actually a deer park. Inside the forest you will see innocent deers grazing on the lush green grounds. More than 500 deers inhabit this forest. Other animals which are found in Bethuadahari include wild cats, peacocks, snakes and various species of birds. It is the perfect destination to spend your weekend. You can also visit Palashi, 24 km from here. The battle of Plassey was fought between Siraj Ud Daulah and Robert Clive at the grounds of Palashi. Bethuadahari Wildlife Sanctuary remains open from 8 am to 4 pm.

How to Reach

Trains  are running from Kolkata station to Bethuadahari. It takes approximately two and a half hours to reach Bethuadahari from Kolkata. From there you can take a rickshaw ride to get to the sanctuary. You can also board a Berhampur bound bus from Kolkata to reach Bethuadahari.
