Uttarey

Uttarey is a small hilly village situated at a height of 7610 ft in West Sikkim. Some of the famous trekking routes of the Himalayas start from this village. Recently cars are plying from Uttarey to Laminipokhri (8200 ft). The view of Nathula Range, Singalila Range, Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Pandim, Mt. Kabru and other snow capped peaks on a cloudless day is awe inspiring. Kagyut Monastery and Gumbadara Pokhri is located nearby. One can visit Manghim and Trout Breeding Centre by trekking or car. Mainbus Waterfalls is a two hour trek from Trout Fishing Centre. Asia's Second Highest Gorge Bridge, Singhshore Bridge is located 6 km from Uttarey. You can also visit Dentam, 9 km from Uttarey where you can witness terrace farming on the hill slopes and cheese processing at the Alpine Cheese Factory. Other attractions in Dentam include Jalpadevi Mandir, Durgamandir and Shivmandir.

How to Reach

Trains are running from Sealdah, Howrah and Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri. The journey from Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri takes around 10 hours. Auto rickshaws are plying from New Jalpaiguri to Siliguri. Uttarey is 160 km from Siliguri. Cars are available to reach Uttarey. You can also get Jorthang-bound shared jeeps from Siliguri SNT Bus Stand. From Jorthang, hired jeeps are available to take you to Uttarey.

Chatakpur

Chatakpur Eco Village is a hill village situated at a height of 7887 ft within the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is 7 km from Sonada located on the way to Darjeeling. A glimpse of Mt. Kanchenjunga alongwith other parts of the Himalayan range can be seen from Chatakpur. Chatakpur View Point is located nearby from where one can get a view of the Pine and Rhododendron Forests. The place is also a bird lover's paradise. Different species of birds including Yellow Billed Blue Magpie, Warbler, Himalayan Bulbul and Black Capped Redstort are seen here. Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary is also home to the great Himalayan Black Bear. You can reach Tiger Hill, Rimbi Village and other places from Chatakpur by trekking. One can also reach Jorebunglow, Ghum, Sonada and Pokhri by car.

Trains are running from Sealdah, Howrah and Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri. Auto rickshaws are plying from New Jalpaiguri to Siliguri. Chatakpur can be reached by car from New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri. Otherwise you can reach Sonada or Jorebunglow by shared car and then hire another car to get to Chatakpur. Chatakpur is 7 km from Sonada and 16 km from Jorebunglow.

Kolakham

Kolakham is a small hilly hamlet located in the buffer zone of Neora Valley National Park. Situated at an altitude of 6100 ft, Kolakham is a paradise for bird watchers. Cascading waterfalls, view of the majestic Mt. Kanchanjunga and the unmatched beauty of the green valley make Kolakham an ideal retreat for nature lovers. The village is surrounded by hills on three sides. Lava is located on one of the hills whereas Rishop is situated on another. You can trek a distance of 5 km from Kolakham to reach Changey Waterfalls. The way from Lava to Kolakham is extremely beautiful. A number of birds like Green Backed Tit, Scarlet Minivet, Red Tailed Minla and Yellow Billed Blue Magpie are seen here. A water reserve has also been created at a place. The magnificent view of the snow capped peaks in the day and lights of houses of Rishop on the surrounding hill at night is awe-inspiring and wonderful.

Trains are running from Sealdah, Howrah and Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri. The journey from Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri takes around 10 hours. You can reach Lava from New Jalpaiguri by car. Distance between New Jalpaiguri and Lava is 117 km. From Lava, four-wheel drive jeeps are available to reach Kolakham. You can also get to Kolakham directly from New Jalpaiguri by hired car.

Paushi

Paushi is a remote village located on the banks of Bagda river in Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal. River, paddy fields, lakes and trees surround the village of Paushi. The calm and serene atmosphere of Paushi village is its main attraction. One can witness the flow of River Bagda straight from the balcony of the cottage. Though the cottages have been made of bamboo, pine and hoghla leaves, all modern amenities are available inside them. Many boats loaded with bamboos are seen in the river. You can also go for a boat ride in Bagda river. The main sightseeing of Paushi village is 'Sahajia' where you can start drawing, painting or sculpting.

How to Reach

You can get Digha-bound buses from Kolkata and disembark at Kalinagar Bus Stand. You can also board Digha-bound trains and get off at Kanthi. If you inform the resort of your arrival time beforehand then they will be able to arrange for transit from Kalinagar or Kanthi to Paushi. Charges for Maruti Van and Ambassador are Rs. 300/- and Rs. 650/- respectively. Trekker services are also available from Kalinagar to Paushi but they are not very regular.
