Machranga Deep

Machranga Deep is a small island situated in the middle of the Ichamati river near Taki in North 24 Parganas of West Bengal. It used to be an excellent picnic spot during the winter season. But nowadays, due to excessive mud and lack of proper infrastructure one can get on this island only during the high tide. Hence the picnic spot has been closed. However you can take a motor boat ride from Taki to go near the island.

You can visit the island by motor boat from Taki.
Motor Boat Charges - Rs. 30/- per head, Rs. 600-800/- for full boat.
Several species of birds like parrot, bulbul and kingfisher are seen here.
Since it is impossible to picnic at Machranga Dwip, you can instead check out the wide range of picnic spots at Taki.

How to Reach

You can reach Taki Road station from Sealdah by Hasnabad Local. From there van rickshaws are available which will take you to Ferry Dock. You can reach Machranga Deep from there by motor boat.

Kulik Bird Sanctuary

Kulik Bird Sanctuary (Raiganj Wildlife Sanctuary) is claimed as Asia's second largest bird sanctuary. Spanning over an area of 130 hectares this sanctuary is home to 164 species of birds including Asian Koel, Red Whiskered Bulbul, Munia, White Breasted Water Hen, Magpie Robin, Parakeet etc. Every year thousands of migratory birds visit this sanctuary during winter. There is a watchtower for bird watching. Apart from birds there are around 64 species of butterflies and various species of reptiles at this sanctuary. The best time to visit Kulik is from September to January.

How to Reach

You can reach Raiganj station from Kolkata Terminal by train. It takes 10 hours to reach Raiganj from Kolkata. Buses are also plying from Esplanade to Raiganj. Kulik is 3 km from Raiganj. Rickshaws are available from Raiganj to reach Kulik.

Garchumuk

Garchumuk is an ideal weekend destination located in the Howrah district of West Bengal. It is a popular picnic spot too. The place is situated at the confluence of River Hooghly and River Damodar offering a beautiful view of the two rivers. Hundreds of visitors flock to Garchumuk to view the spectacular barrage called Atanna Gate (58 No. Gate) where 58 lock gates have been built. The Deer Park at Garchumuk is an added attraction. How to Reach

You can reach Uluberia from Howrah by train. From there buses are running to Garchumuk. Apart from this Garchumuk can be reached from Kolkata by bus. You can board Gadiara bound buses from Esplanade bus terminus and disembark at Atanna Gate.

You can also visit Moluti from here, where the famous Bengali Saint Bamakhyapa had spent his childhood.

From Howrah you can reach Rampurhat by train. Auto rickshaws and jeeps are available from there to get to Tumbani.

How to Reach

You have to reach Adisaptagram station from Howrah by train. The station lies on Howrah-Bardhhaman Main Line. From there you can reach Suakhal by rickshaw. Suakhal can also be reached from Serampore by bus (Route No. 12/C/1).

Bangriposi

Bangriposi is a small tribal village situated beside Buribalam River in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. The hamlet is nestled in the Thakurani range of hills. Bangriposi is situated in the outskirts of Simlipal National Park and is also considered as a gateway to this sanctuary. The surrounding environment of Bangriposi is full of scenic beauty and serenity. The prime attraction of Bangriposi is the Buribalam Waterfalls. You can also visit the Kanak Devi shrine situated in the hills. The sunrise seen from Bangriposi is an unforgettable experience.
