Shibpur Botanical Garden

Shibpur Botanical Garden situated in Howrah is one of Asia's largest botanical garden. During winter hundreds of people come here to see the various species of trees and plants. It is also a good picnic spot. Spanning over an area of 273 acres, apart from numerous trees and plants there are a number of water bodies and lakes which makes it more attractive to the visitors.

Picnic in the open grounds of the garden is strictly prohibited. There are two pavilions for picnic purposes. Charges for each pavilion is Rs. 350/-.
You have to bring all arangements for picnic from outside.
One has to book the picnic spot from the garden office a few days before the date of picnic.
You have to pay parking charges if you go by car.
Entry fee for entering botanical garden is Rs. 5/-.


How to Reach

A number of buses of Kolkata and Howrah go to Shibpur Botanical garden. You can also reach there by taxi or private car.

Gopalpur

Gopalpur on Sea is a beach resort situated in the Ganjam district of Odisha. The beach is clean and beautiful. The place is quite. One can enjoy the roaring of the waves and feel the cool breeze. Though there are no sightseeings in Gopalpur, you can go an a excursion to a number of places. These are Tapta Pani (65 km), Mahurikia (30 km), Taratarini Mandir (30 km) and Rambha (45 km).

You can reach Brahmapur from Howrah by train. From Brahmapur station you can get bus, auto rickshaw or taxi to reach Gopalpur.

Wonder Land Park

Wonderland Park is situated in the city of Chandannagar. The park covers an area of 135 bighas. There are more than 200 picnic spots here. A garden, boating complex, children's park, fountains, toy trains and mickey mouse are added attractions of this park. Restaurants and guest houses are also there at Wonderland Park. You can buy arrangements for picnic from the local market. You can also roam around the city of Chandannagar which was once ruled by the French.

The park remains open from 8 am to 7 pm.
Charges for booking a picnic spot : Rs. 200/- (Maximum 40 persons)
There are separate entry fees for other rides and attractions.
AC and Non AC Guesthouses are also available. However they are not rented during the months of December to February.

How to Reach

You can reach Chandannagar from Howrah by train. KMDA park can be reached by rickshaw or auto from Chandannagar station. If you go by car you have to take G.T. Road and after crossing Chandannagar Railbridge you will find KMDA Park on the left side of the road.

Rinchenpong

Rinchenpong is a beautiful village located in West Sikkim at a height of 5550 ft. It is one of the latest additions to the tourist map of Sikkim. One can enjoy the magnificent view of the snow clad peaks of Kanchenjunga, Rothang, Koktang, Kabru etc. Hilley Barshey Rhododendron Sanctuary is a 20 km trek from here. The lush greenery of this village will mesmerize each and every visitor. The famous Bengali poet and writer Rabindranath Tagore had spent night in one of the rest bunglows of Rinchenpong. You can visit Rinchenpong Monastery, Risham Monastery, hot spring and Rabindra Memorial Garden. One can also visit Legship which is the entry point of West Sikkim. River Rangit is gushing by its side which looks wonderful. A recreational water park named Rangit Water World has come up here which offers a number of activities like boating, rafting and fishing to the tourists.

You can reach Jorethang from Siliguri by bus or shared car. Again from there you will get shared cars to go to Rinchenpong.

Mirik

Mirik is a picturesque hill resort located in the district of Darjeeling in the state of West Bengal. It is situated at an altitude of 1767 m above sea level. The prime attraction of Mirik is the Sumendu Lake, surrounded by a garden on one side and pine trees on the other and linked to one another by an arched footbridge. This lake situated in the Singhlila hill covers an area of 1.25 sq. km. It offers breathtaking views of Mt. Kanchenjunga near the horizon. One can boat in the lake or take a pony ride around the lake. Other attractions in Mirik include lush green tea gardens and orange orchards. How to Reach

Trains are running from Sealdah, Howrah and Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri. The journey from Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri takes around 10 hours. Auto rickshaws are plying from New Jalpaiguri to Siliguri. From Siliguri you can get bus, shared cars and jeeps to reach Mirik. You can also go to Mirik from Darjeeling.

Rasikbil

Rasikbil is located in the district of Coochbehar in the state of West Bengal. It consists of a small lake. The bird sanctuary spans over an area of 175 hectares. The unending blue sky and the vast expanse of the lake and the forest merge together and create a wonderful scene that will remain in your minds for years. The main attractions of Rasikbil are the various species of migratory birds which come here during every winter season and go back to their country when spring arrives. How to Reach

Trains are running from Sealdah and Howrah to Alipurduar Junction. It takes around 15 hours to reach Alipurduar. You can reach Rasikbil by bus from Alipurduar. Apart from this you can come to Kamakhyaguri from Coochbehar or Alipurduar and from there you can reach Rasikbil by rickshaw. Distance is 4 km.
