Duarsini

Duarsini is located in the border of the districts of West Bengal and Jharkhand. Forests of Sal, Segun and Piyal and small hills surround Duarsini. Satgudum river is flowing through this place. Duarsini is inhabited by the tribals. It is a perfect place for those who want to spend their weekend with nature.

You can visit the tribal villages and witness their simple, traditional lifestyle. The forest embracing Duarsini is another attraction. It is home to wild animals like bears, wild pig, elephants, hyena and wolf. If you are lucky, then you might catch a glimpse of these animals in their own natural habitat. Sit on the bank of the Satgudum River and feel rejuvenated as you listen to the endless chirping of birds, bubbling of the rivulet and stare at the vast open sky above you.

How to Reach

Trains are running from Howrah to Ghatsila. It takes around 3 hours to reach Ghatsila from Howrah. From Ghatshila you can get hired car to reach Duarsini which is 20 km from there.

Naupala Picnic Spot

How to Reach

You can reach Deulti from Howrah by train. Auto and Van Rickshaws are available from Deulti station to reach Naupala Picnic Spot. You can also reach Naupala by crossing the Rupnarayan River bridge over River Rupnarayan from Kolaghat station.

You can reach New Jalpaiguri from Kolkata by train. From there you can get jeep or car in sharing basis to reach Gangtok. Or else you can reach Sikkim Nationalised Transport bus terminus in Siliguri by auto and then reach Gangtok by bus. Jeeps are also running from Siliguri to Gangtok.

Gadiara

Palamau

Palamau National Park which is also known as Betla forest is situated in the state of Jharkhand and covers an area of 930 sq km. A tiger reserve has come up here. Here you can see elephants, leopard, Sambhar, Nilgai, Gaur, Bison and several species of deers. The main attractions of this forest are the colourful and beautiful birds which make the tourists feel amazed at the beauty of nature. The park remains open from 5 am to 6 pm. Although the park is open all year round, but the best time to visit Palamau is February-April.

You can board Shaktipunj Express from Howrah station and disembark at Daltanganj. Palamau Forest is 25 km from here. You can also reach Palamau from Ranchi or Dhanbad.

Chapramari

Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary is situated close to Gorumara National Park. Though the forest is relatively small, it hosts a variety of flora and fauna. The forest is famous for its elephant population. You can also see one-horned Rhinoceros, Gaur, deers, Nilgai and reptiles here. One can also witness a huge number of species of birds at Chapramari. Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary remains closed from 16th June to 15th September. It also remains closed on every Thursday.

How to Reach

13149 Kanchankanya Express is running from Sealdah to New Mal Junction. From there cars are available on hire basis to get to Chapramari. Distance is 30 km. Car charges around Rs. 1500.
