Kapilash

Kapilash situated at an altitude of 1575 ft is also known as Kailash of Odisha. The town of Dhenkanal is the gateway to Kapilash. A temple of Lord Shiva is located atop the hill. To get to the temple one has to climb 1390 steps. The way to the temple is thrilling with dense forests on both sides of the path. There is a motorable road too. The singing birds, colourful butterflies and amazing waterfalls will mesmerize you. A temple of Lord Vishwanath is also there in Kapilash. There is a small zoo at the foothills of Kapilash. It remains closed on Tuesdays. The Gharial Breeding Centre and Science Park are an added attraction to the tourists. You can go for boating in the lake situated beside the zoo.

How to Reach

Trains are running from Howrah to Dhenkanal. It takes about 7 hours to reach Dhenkanal from Howrah. Alternatively, you can also reach Cuttack from Howrah and Shalimar by train. From Badambari Bus Stand in Cuttack you can get bus or taxi to reach Dhenkanal, 21 km from away. Buses, trekkers and taxis are available from Dhenkanal in order to reach Kapilash.
